Let me introduce you to Del Ray Fabrics if you don't already know. What a great fabric shop this is! I'm so glad to have stumbled upon it. Pam, the shop owner, carries many fabrics I haven't seen elsewhere and her prices are really reasonable. REALLY! What really makes me truly happy though, is the even better shipping prices. She'll ship internationally as well and $150 gets you free shipping, but if you aren't ordering that much, the price is still really low compared to almost all fabric stores I've found. I really dislike having to spend more on shipping than I do on my fabric...but maybe that's just me.

Why don't you check out this wonderful fabric shop online at: www.delrayfabrics.com/
And maybe even sign up for the newsletter while you are there. I did, because I don't want to miss out on any fabulous deals! I think you'll like what you find.

I bought several items including some of the yummy Tula Pink fabrics like Parisville because Pam is having a Freespirit Tent Sale! I wish I had been around when Parisville first came out. I'm just so glad I was still able to find it here at Del Ray Fabrics.

Oh and guess what? Pam is offering everyone a discount of 10% off your first entire order!! All you have to do is use the discount code: "JENNIE" when you check out.
I've probably made 15 or so pizzas in the past couple of months just trying to get the dough and sauce recipes perfected. My practice is making perfect. I feel like in the next few pizza "trials" I'll finally get everything exactly how I want it. Not to say any of the pizzas have been "not good" it's just they weren't PERFECT. I've been trying to emulate a Pizza Hut flavor profile and crust texture. I'm getting really close. The pizza crust is what I'm really trying to perfect. Dough has always been my nemesis.

Baking truly is an art. I've never been happy with my "dough" skills, but while working with these pizzas for a while, I feel like I've really started to "understand" what dough should look and feel like. I guess that's the biggest clue as to how it will turn out. I no longer add too much flour and get a tough crust. I just haven't quite gotten the flavor profile that I truly desire yet--but really close! The textures I'm getting are wonderful though. Fluffy, crunchy, tender! Yum! Isn't this a beauty? This was my last pizza...as soon as I get the recipes the way I feel they should be I'm going to share it here. I just have to tell you, I tried some of the pre-packaged pizza doughs (where you just add water to the ingredients) from the store a few weeks ago just to see how good they were...YUCK! They tasted like cardboard. I'll never be able to go back from homemade pizza ever again!
When I read that it could do projects as large as 10 feet long, I knew I had to make something big! I was slightly apprehensive about doing something so large for my "first" project. "Maybe I should start small," my inner rational voice said. However, I told her to shut up and I decided to throw caution to the wind. Ha!

My father needed some signage for his business, and I was all too happy to volunteer my services. The sign is about 4 feet wide. It's just a simple sign, but totally effective in my opinion. We hung it on an old swing set! Pretty cool, I think. The Silhouette cut the vinyl so beautifully. OK, I had one tiny issue on the first long vinyl piece. It stopped cutting on the very last "s" in the word transmissions. So I had just half of an "s" at the end. I figured it was just a fluke. It didn't happen second time around on the exact same graphic. I can't complain. I'm a novice after all. I just used an exacto blade to finish it off and it was fine.

Anyway, here's the photo of the finished piece. It's also looks exactly the same on the other side. I figured we needed to make it visible from both sides for passers-by. Sorry for the picture quality. The light was getting low as we didn't finish the sign until late afternoon. Not to mention the sign is placed under a huge tree. I just had to take a picture anyway. I blurred out the phone number for "safety." It doesn't really look like that, ha! I just know I'll have a blast with my Cameo. What can't the Silhouette Cameo do?

I can't wait to use this machine for other projects. T-shirts are my next project (also for my dad). I plan to airbrush them with stencils I make with the Silhouette. That way he can be a walking advertisement. Then I'm going to apply vinyl branding on his truck too! All his idea of course. I'm not crazy or anything.
Jennie P.http://www.blogger.com/profile/01424480099460671700noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7397558457632107940.post-53033250645091495552012-08-21T16:11:00.002-04:002012-09-09T09:42:23.246-04:00Your chance to win Under the Palm Tree
Annabella from Life's Rich Pattern is having a giveaway for the bundle I designed for FluffySheepQuilting. YAY! I'm so, so happy about that! Yet, having used various graphic programs for years it is taking me a bit to get used to the way their software works. I get super annoyed at how you are automatically returned to the "Select tool" when you deselect an object. I like for it to stay on the same tool I choose until I'm ready to choose another, or unless I have just opened the software program. I don't know, maybe I'm the only one who gets so annoyed at this?

Either way, I have figured out what I need to do to fix this annoyance...for the most part. If you go to the File menu on the toolbar and choose "Preferences," a window pops up and has several options. On the left hand side you choose "Tool Selection." It is, by default, set on "Choose Select" which means it will go straight back to the "Select tool" (the very first tool that looks like a mouse cursor) as soon as you stop drawing or whatever. If it bothers you as much as it bothers me, simply click on the options that say "Continue..." for each of the tools as shown in this screenshot below.

Unfortunately, the tool that I use most--the "Edit Points tool"--is not on this menu. I wish that it was, but I have found another way around that flaw. If your object/shape is already selected, all you need to do is double-click on the object and it automatically shows the path and points which you can then edit as you wish. If the object is not yet selected just click on it once, then double-click on it. Voila! Ah, you can't imagine my relief from this serious irritation. I hope Silhouette fixes this issue in their next upgrade. But if they don't, I hope that this discovery helps someone else to not tear their hair out.
Jennie P.http://www.blogger.com/profile/01424480099460671700noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7397558457632107940.post-19556079897054602632012-06-29T08:20:00.001-04:002012-09-13T12:31:57.134-04:00Complimentary, My dear Watson!Just a bundle of complimentary colors.
There was a total of 718 entries! Wow! There were a couple of duplicate comments and to make it absolutely fair, I always delete those. So, after deleting those 11 duplicates there were 707 entries. I then used a new random generator I found that I like better than random.org. It seems to me when you have a high number of entries, random.org is always spitting out numbers at the higher end and neglects the lower end of the range. I tested this generator out many, many times and it did a good job of picking out low, middle and high numbers throughout my tests. It seems it is more truly random and just more evenly balanced to me. So, I'll be using that from now on. Ok, you're probably wondering who the winner is by now...

The winner will have 48 hours to respond with her info which shouldn't be a problem since she isn't a no-reply blogger and she is a follower (thanks for that)!

Have a great rest of the weekend everyone! I know I will! I'm making peanut butter frosting to go on some chocolate, caramel-filled cupcakes. To die for!!! And I'm going to get going on a quilt for QuiltsForKids.org. I have some Disney Pixar's Cars fabric and some Disney Mickey Mouse fabric for the back! I hope it turns out cute.

It's been a few years, but someone has finally done it! Hallelujah!

SeamedUp is to sewing & quilting as Ravelry is to knitting. I'm so happy right now and I've already got myself signed up for my free account. I'll be able to keep track of all of my fabrics & patterns. I needed an excuse to inventory everything anyway. I'll be able to keep track of any unfinished or completed projects I have. I know it will be a source of inspiration because you can see what other's have been up to, find fabrics and patterns you never knew existed. It's gonna be great! If you love to sew, quilt--or maybe you just love fabric, this is going to be a great place for you. It's FREE to join, so I hope you go check it out and pass it along to all your sewing friends. Let's help this wonderful new venture grow and flourish!
Jennie P.http://www.blogger.com/profile/01424480099460671700noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7397558457632107940.post-15720103376571731072012-05-05T01:21:00.005-04:002012-08-30T01:25:30.920-04:00Giveaway: FreeSpirit Designer Solids Color CardHey guys! Guess what? Today, I'm having a giveaway for a FreeSpirit Designer Solids color card! I just ♥ ♥ ♥ FreeSpirit fabrics, don't you? My fabric stash primarily consists of FreeSpirit fabrics--I'm talking about 90% of it!! Actually, I wish I had one of these color cards for myself. Maybe one day...but for now this color card is for one of you!! I want to sincerely thank Charlie and Lindsay of Hawthorne Threads for providing the color card for me to give away here. Thank you for being so awesome!

I've visited Hawthorne Threads quite a bit (even if I am only window shopping until the budget allows otherwise, ha ha!) Their shop is so user friendly and easy on the eyes. Can I tell you about my absolute favorite feature of their store? It's not something I've seen anywhere else. When you are shopping for fabrics, on each fabric's page, located at the bottom you'll see something like this:

I mean, they take out all the guesswork of matching colors for you! Here's mine for week 2. The theme is "Meet me at the picnic." It sure is hard to pick and choose with all the great fabrics but here is what I'm entering...

And entry #2 - I chose a warmer palette and it reminds me of lemonade on a warm (possibly hot), sunny day.
I am so excited, because today I'm having a giveaway for an Aurifil Thread Chart! It has 252 colors of real thread displayed. Wouldn't you like to win one? I sure wish I had one...

Shopping for thread and fabric online is not as accurate as it is convenient. Every monitor shows color differently, making fabric and thread shopping a hit or a miss when trying to match colors. I'm very grateful to Jean from Pumpkinvine Corner for graciously providing this prize for me to give to one of you. Her store carries all sorts of goodies from patterns, and notions to decorative wire hangers...and of course, a goldmine of Aurifil threads. By goldmine, I mean a huge selection of colors, weights and spool sizes. Unfortunately, I do not have a local quilt shop. If you happen to have the same misfortune, you know how hard it is to find a good selection AND a great price on the supplies you need for your sewing projects. I was super impressed with Jean's selection of Aurifil. She even sells the LARGE cones! Very few online stores sell the 6,452 yard 50 wt. cones and the 5,140 yard 40 wt. cones. Just check out Pumpkinvine Corner's selection of Aurifil threads from the links below and you'll see what I mean. Oh, and Jean will even special order Aurifil cones if you can't find the color you want. Super cool huh? One last thing...orders over $50 qualify for 1/2 price shipping and orders over $99 ship for free!
I just didn't want to do a giveaway until I could get my comments numbered on blogger! Less work for me when trying to figure out who wins! I finally figured it all out and now I can start doing my giveaways! I have had a couple of wonderful companies willing to provide stuff for me to review and for you to WIN! You'll have to stick around to see about those...

My sincerest thanks goes to the wonderful folks at Warm Company who provided me with batting to review and this great prize to give to you! This batting is absolutely wonderful, and I mean top-notch! Not ALL battings are created equal. I'm sure many of you more experienced quilters know this by now, but not long ago, I didn't think it really mattered because it was just filling, right? Um, wrong! It can totally make or break your quilt, not to mention frustrate you. The Warm & Natural batting is needle punched which means the fibers are held together nicely (without glues or other substances) and they aren't coming apart! If you've ever seen needle felting, it's kind of the same principle. It's like the needle interlocks neighboring fibers together. This process creates a strong batting material, not like that nasty loose polyfill. You won't experience any bearding, shedding, or just all-around "unpleasantness" with this batting. It's almost like a blanket straight out of the package. It's lightweight and oh, so soft! I had no idea how soft battings could be until now. I just wanted to cuddle it, pet it and whisper "my precious..." When it comes to batting, I have learned my lesson: Don't go cheap, go with quality--and if you ask me their battings are just as affordable as they are wonderful! Quality doesn't necessarily mean paying top dollar.
